Benefits of Native Landscapes
CSR specializes in creating family and environmentally
friendly habitats around houses “Native Landscapes”.
Some of the benefits are water conservation and lower maintenance.
Creating a natural habitat in urban environments exposes
people to the native fauna of an area as much as it does
the flora. “If
you have the habitat you will have the inhabitants” --Steven
Paulsen
Project description: The
following project addresses several problems we often encounter
with new construction
and native landscapes. First, the topography of the site
made it necessary to change elevations and improve the
flow of water after the house was already placed.
Our design department is used to working with several types
of hard
materials
to accomplish the client's aesthetic and functional goals.
In this case we used wall block and pavers to create patios
and stairs around the house. All the plants were native
to the area, and were placed in the areas around that house
that best suited their natural
habitats. When this project comes to life in the next season it will provide blooming
flowers through the growing season. This will invite several
desirable forms of wildlife to use and live in the habitat
created. The watering requirements will be as much as 50% less than
a traditional landscape, and absolutely no chemical use
will be necessary to steward this location.
